Enzo Maresca knew Chelsea would beat PSG just 10 minutes into final after noticing two things

Chelsea were the underdogs heading into their Club World Cup final clash against Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday.

However, according to Enzo Maresca, the Blues won the tie against the European champions after just 10 minutes.

Chelsea made an excellent start to the game and were able to capitalise on that after Cole Palmer’s goal in the 22nd minute. The attacking midfielder then grabbed a second before Joao Pedro made it 3-0 to kill the match before the half-time whistle was even blown.

Palmer has since lauded Maresca’s gameplan, which was perfectly executed by the 23-year-old and the rest of the Chelsea team.

Chelsea’s tempo and pressing won them Club World Cup final

It is fair to say that Maresca was more than satisfied with Chelsea’s opening 10 minutes and their overall performance.

For the Chelsea head coach, his side set the tempo and pressed well in that period, setting them on course to a famous victory.

“For me, we won the game in the first 10 minutes,” Maresca told DAZN (13/07/2025 at 22:13) after the full-time whistle. “We set the tempo and we were very good at pressing them. The conditions made it hard to keep going but the boys did well.”

While Chelsea may have got their tempo and pressing right, ultimately it was their clinical edge on the day that secured the trophy.

Palmer took his two goals extremely well, while the same can also be said about Pedro and his strike. The Brazilian has been at Chelsea for less than a month but is already a fan favourite, having also scored twice in the semi-finals.

Pedro’s impact has shocked Andros Townsend, who was really impressed with his finish on Sunday.

Enzo Maresca on how he utilised Cole Palmer at the MetLife Stadium

Maresca spoke about Palmer specifically after the Club World Cup final, explaining how the Englishman was able to do so much damage against Luis Enrique’s side.

In the same post-match interview with DAZN, the Italian said: “Today we found a position for him where there was more space to attack. Obviously Cole played really well but the effort from all the players was fantastic.”

In the end, PSG could not find a way to stop Palmer, whom Enrique described as “very good” when he spoke to the media after the game. It was probably the England international’s best performance of the season, coming at the perfect time.
