Three Chelsea players going into make or break season at Stamford Bridge, including Club World Cup hero
The Chelsea squad has undergone much change again this summer, leaving a number of current first team stars needing to prove themselves over the next 12 months to save their place in the side.
The Blues have already brought in the likes of Joao Pedro, Liam Delap and Jamie Gittens this summer, and already have a conveyor belt of talent to come in the future.
The likes of Kendry Paez and Geovany Quenda will not be with the first team for another 12 months, and the clear plan of Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali to invest in young talents is set to continue.
Enzo Maresca has certainly found out who he can rely on in the first team after his first season in charge, and likewise will be aware of who needs to step up with big performances to maintain their place in the first team squad.
The Chelsea Chronicle have named three players who are entering a make or break season at Stamford Bridge in 2025/26.

Romeo Lavia
It is clear that Romeo Lavia is a shoo-in to start games when he is fit enough, however that in itself sums up the problem.
The Belgian featured just once off the bench in his first season at Stamford Bridge, and made 16 appearances in the Premier League under Maresca.
Lavia is yet to complete 90 minutes since his move from Southampton, and will need to replicate Reece James’ fitness turnaround in recent months in order to maintain his place.
He will be quickly under threat for a place in the side from Andrey Santos and Dario Essugo for minutes, and Chelsea may be tempted to cash in if they can no longer rely on his services regularly.
Wesley Fofana
In a similar light to Lavia, Wesley Fofana has been unfortunate with injuries since he made his move back in 2022.
Fofana was not in the Club World Cup squad, and after already missing out on the Conference League triumph he did not pick up a single winner’s medal from the 2024/25 season.
Chelsea are finalising the signing of Jorrel Hato, who can play centre-back and could form a very exciting duo with Levi Colwill.
This would put the other centre-backs at risk, and Fofana’s availability could see him on the chopping block if his minutes don’t pick up next season.
Pedro Neto
Pedro Neto played a starring role in Chelsea’s Club World Cup campaign. Neto was named in the Team of the Tournament for his performances.
However, he is already facing plenty of brand-new competition for his place in the side. Estevao Willian and Gittens will be looking for first team minutes as soon as next season.
The future is bright when it comes to wingers, with Quenda joining in 12 months time and impressing in the early stages of his career.
The Portugal international has at least seen Noni Madueke depart the club, however will need to be at his best to hold off the challenge the new additions are set to bring.
