Willian includes Cole Palmer as he names three Chelsea stars he would have liked to play with

Willian overlapped with some true Chelsea greats during his era as a player at Stamford Bridge, but he’s named a few current Blues stars he would have loved to play alongside, including Cole Palmer.

Willian, who played at Chelsea between 2013 and 2020, won five major trophies during his time at the club. In 339 Blues appearances, the Brazilian winger scored 63 goals and created 58 assists.

If you skip to the modern day, Cole Palmer is the star name in the current group at Stamford Bridge.

Even though Tony Cascarino admits Palmer’s Chelsea form has massively dipped, the attacking playmaker is still the talisman that supporters look towards for inspiration.

Willian would have loved to play with Chelsea trio

Willian, 36, has confessed that Palmer, Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo are the current Chelsea stars he wishes he could have played alongside.

During an interview with FIFA’s website, Willian was asked who would he have liked to play with in the current Chelsea squad. He responded: “I really like [Cole] Palmer and Enzo Fernandez. They are both quality players. Then there’s Moises Caicedo. I’d also mention [Reece] James, but I was lucky enough to play with him already.”

Even though any new Blues signing is walking into a very young dressing room, it’s still stacked with so much individual quality. Over time, the hope is that this group develops together into a world-class unit.

Chelsea think they have a world-class midfield with the combination of Caicedo, Fernandez and Palmer.

There aren’t many defensive midfielders in the world who have looked as influential as Caicedo in the past year. Meanwhile, Fernandez is developing into a top-class box-to-box central midfielder, plus Palmer is a creative genius in a No 10 role.

Willian predicts Chelsea vs Palmeiras

On Saturday, Chelsea face Brazilian side Palmeiras in the quarter-finals of the Club World Cup.

Willian has predicted a Chelsea win via FIFA’s website: The former Blues star said: “I think it’ll be a hotly contested match. Of course, depending on how it pans out, such as if there’s an early goal, it could become more comfortable for Chelsea, which was the case for Bayern against Flamengo. It won’t be an easy game, but I do think Chelsea will get through in the end.”

Chelsea are favourites to win the Club World Cup with Opta’s Supercomputer, which is partly down to the fact they’re on the opposite side of the draw to the European giants. However, Brazilian clubs have more than held their own at this tournament so far.
