German media deliver verdict on Chelsea target Xavi Simons as RB Leipzig get hammered 6-0

Xavi Simons has continued to play for current club RB Leipzig this summer despite strong links with a move to Chelsea.

The Blues have already made some impressive signings in attack this window, but they are linked with Xavi Simons, the 22-year-old Leipzig attacking midfielder.

Simons insists he only wants to join Chelsea this summer after weeks of transfer speculation. Chelsea have promised to submit a Simons bid before the window shuts, but will fans see him at Stamford Bridge before the deadline on 1 September?

German media react to Xavi Simons display as Bayern Munich hammer RB Leipzig

On Friday night, the new Bundesliga season kicked off with reigning champions Bayern Munich thrashing Leipzig 6-0 at home.

Despite intense speculation around his future, Simons played the full game for the visitors. He received some harsh criticism from the German media for his individual performance, though.

RAN wrote: “Xavi Simons. Only starting in what was likely his last game for RB Leipzig. He created at least a bit of danger in the first half with a good corner. But then almost stopped playing when he let Gnabry run away with the score at 0-3.”

Meanwhile, GGFN gave Simons a 4/10 grade in their player ratings.

The statistics from Xavi Simons performance vs Bayern Munich

Of course, Leipzig were miles off it and blown away by Bayern in their league opener. However, Chelsea target Simons did try and put up some kind of resistance.

The versatile playmaker, who played on the left wing yesterday, was a bright spark for a poor Leipzig outfit.

If he joins the Blues, we’re confident the skilful attacker can bring plenty to Enzo Maresca’s squad. The Netherlands international would surely excel around better players, particularly in the final third.

Chelsea are confident Simons would suit them with his profile as a versatile footballer, so it would be great to try and get this deal over the line.
