£60m player says he was expecting Chelsea to sign him for ‘a long time’

Chelsea’s new signings have had some time to settle in now, and one summer acquisition already looks on course to be a top player at the club.

It feels like an eternity ago that Chelsea’s window opened ahead of the Club World Cup.

The Blues have received some criticism for not significantly strengthening at the back, but they might be forgiven, considering they reached a deal for one of the league’s most exciting attackers.

And the new Chelsea man, who hosts his old side in this weekend’s Premier League action, was well aware of how the summer would go. And very happy about it.

Joao Pedro knew a Chelsea move was coming

Joao Pedro has been the standout signing so far this season, starting every Premier League game and looking at home in Chelsea blue.

Chelsea signed Pedro from Brighton early in the summer, and according to the Brazilian, it came as no surprise.

Appearing on the Premier League’s Welcome to the Weekend, Pedro gave us some insight into his feelings as the transfer edged closer.

He said: “I think I expected this moment for a long time, so I was very happy. I was in Brazil in Rio with my friends. I couldn’t say to them, it was hard to keep silent, but I was very happy.”

From what Pedro is saying, it’s safe to assume a move was on the cards well in advance of June 29th.

Joao Pedro is a Chelsea player

A statement of the obvious, right?

Chelsea sign a lot of young talent, as we all know. And while many get a chance to play football at Stamford Bridge, there is a distinction between being a new signing and becoming a key player from day one.

Pedro looks like he belongs.

His confidence is unwavering and he has taken the pressure of a big club move in his stride. It’s easy to see him playing at the club for years to come alongside Cole Palmer, Reece James, Levi Colwill etc.

Nicolas Jackson was a great servant to Chelsea during his time in London, but he didn’t have that calmness and killer mentality like we have seen from the former Brighton striker.

Pedro was rested during the week, so he should be available to face his former team and demonstrate once again why he is £60 million very well spent.
