Every previous Chelsea player to wear Alejandro Garnacho's bizarre number
Alejandro Garnacho’s new shirt number at Chelsea has been revealed for supporters keen to buy this season’s top with his name on the back.
Chelsea completed the signing of Alejandro Garnacho, 21, from Premier League rivals Manchester United late in the summer transfer window. After plenty of speculation, the Argentine winger finally secured his move to West London last week.
Paul Scholes expects Garnacho to succeed at Chelsea, and Blues supporters should be encouraged with his CV. Unlike a lot of youngsters, the South American attacker arrives with 144 first-team games for Man Utd under his belt.
Joao Pedro sounds excited about Garnacho’s arrival as they prepare to form part of a new-look attack for the Blues this season.

Alejandro Garnacho takes No.49 shirt at Chelsea
It was confirmed on Wednesday that Chelsea signing Garnacho will wear the No.49 kit.
Estevao Willian took the No.41 shirt at Chelsea following his arrival in the summer. Meanwhile, Romeo Lavia has had the No.45 kit since he joined the club two years ago.

Every previous player to wear Chelsea’s No.49
Even though the No.49 shirt is a bit bizarre and uncommon, Garnacho previously wore it at Man Utd for a period.
There are only a few individuals in Chelsea’s history to wear the No.49, so it’s a chance for Garnacho to make a legacy for himself at Stamford Bridge.
We’ve taken a look at the previous players at Chelsea to take the No.49, via Transfermarkt.
- Richard Olise (2024/25)
- Jimi Tauriainen (2023/24)
- John Swift (2013/14)
- Scott Sinclair (2006/07)
Ultimately, it doesn’t matter what Garnacho has on the back of the shirt because he will ultimately be judged by everyone for what he does on the football pitch. If he can fulfil the potential he showed at Old Trafford as a youngster, Chelsea may have just pulled off one of the signings of the summer.
Man Utd are pleased with Garnacho’s £40m sale, but it could come back to bite them if he develops properly in the capital.
