Marc Cucurella claims Chelsea teammate Enzo Fernandez has one natural ability
Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella has praised Enzo Fernandez for one quality area of his game. In fact, we think it’s something he’s severely underrated in.
Without a doubt, Enzo Fernandez, 24, has grown into one of the best players at Chelsea over time.
The box-to-box central midfielder may have taken a while to get started when he first arrived at Stamford Bridge, but he’s now at the heart of the team’s success, offering a lot both offensively and defensively.
Blues star Moises Caicedo has a superb understanding with Fernandez in the centre of the park. At the moment, it looks like one of the strongest midfield pairings, which can compare to anything else in Europe.

Marc Cucurella claims Enzo Fernandez has a ‘striker’s instinct’
Blues left-back Marc Cucurella, 27, has hailed teammate Fernandez for his gift in front of goal.
When asked which Chelsea defender or midfielder would be the best striker, Cucurella said via Chelsea’s official website: “Maybe Enzo Fernandez. I think he scores a lot of goals and has a striker’s instinct.”
Fernandez scored nine goals across all competitions last season for Enzo Maresca’s side. The box-to-box midfielder has started the new campaign in even better goalscoring form.
| Fixture | Date | Minutes played | Goals | Assists |
| Chelsea 2-0 Fulham | 30 August | 90 | 1 | 1 |
| West Ham 1-5 Chelsea | 22 August | 90 | 1 | 0 |
| Chelsea 0-0 Crystal Palace | 17 August | 79 | 0 | 0 |
We think Fernandez’s ability as a goal threat is slightly underrated because he can hurt opposition teams. In particular, he’s started to master the art of timing his forward runs into the box, where his finishing range is evident.
The reality is that the Argentine midfielder should easily be pushing for 10+ goals this season.
Troy Deeney predicts Fernandez will score 10-12 goals this campaign because of his role in Enzo Maresca’s system.

Enzo Fernandez gets well-deserved rest
We expect to see Fernandez play a key role in the upcoming months for Chelsea, especially because he’s got a small period to rest right now.
Fernandez was left out of Argentina’s squad during September’s international break because he’s suspended for World Cup qualifiers. It feels like it could be a blessing in disguise, though.
The all-action midfielder should benefit a lot from a small break because he’s played so much football across the last two years.
Now that Andrey Santos has joined Chelsea’s squad, we think it should be a bit easier for Maresca to manage Fernandez’s minutes a bit more carefully, keeping him fresh for the showdown fixtures.
