'No fear': Thierry Henry praises 'special' £44m Chelsea player after superb Champions League showing

Chelsea’s Champions League campaign unfortunately started with a loss to Bayern Munich.

A trip to the Allianz Arena ended in defeat after a Harry Kane brace sealed the result on opening night.

Cole Palmer made his debut in the competition, marking it with a well-taken goal. Other than the Englishman, there weren’t any standout performers in Enzo Maresca’s side.

But a Chelsea player would take to the field the following night and blow Thierry Henry away.

Henry covered Thursday night’s action for CBS, and was reviewing Sporting’s 4-1 win against Kairat.

18-year-old Geovany Quenda remained in Portugal for this season despite Chelsea signing him for £44 million. Game time was an important consideration, and the Portuguese winger appears to be making the most of his minutes in Lisbon.

Following an impressive Quenda performance, including a goal and an assist, Henry was quick to heap praise on the winger.

He said: “This kid is special. I’ve seen him at the Euros U21. I mean, the way he goes about what he does, I like it. He has no fear. You will expect that from the youngster, but there’s something special about him.”

That special quality is exactly what Chelsea saw that made them shell out so much money, and he’s only getting better.

Geovany Quenda and Estevao could be fighting for a starting spot at Chelsea

Chelsea’s transfer strategy has yielded positive results from a business perspective in recent seasons, but there has been some criticism over the lack of experience in a squad that cost so much money.

Just looking at two pieces of business in isolation, though, the young player strategy seems to be working very well.

Estevao Willian joined this summer after a similar arrangement that allowed him to remain in Brazil another season. Also 18, Estevao likes to operate on the right and cut in onto his dangerous left foot.

Quenda’s game isn’t too different, and it raises the question of how they could play together.

If the Portuguese winger joins next summer, Maresca will have a very tough, but very nice decision to make between two of the most promising young attackers in world football.
