Report: Chelsea pleased with their 20-year-old loanee as Behdad Eghbali attends his match
Chelsea have many talented players currently impressing out on loan, including Mike Penders.
Like always, Chelsea trimmed down their squad in the summer by sending several youngsters on loan to experience regular first-team football. The connection with sister club Strasbourg led to Blues talents Mike Penders, Kendry Paez and Mamadou Sarr joining them in the French top division.
Penders, 20, has joined Strasbourg on a temporary basis to be their first-choice goalkeeper. The Belgian youngster has started impressively, too.
| Competition | Appearances | Clean sheets |
| Ligue 1 | 4 | 2 |
| Conference League qualifiers | 2 | 1 |
Chelsea rate Penders in a similar way to Estevao Willian, which shows just how highly they think of him. In the long term, he may be a natural upgrade on both Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea delighted with Mike Penders
According to The Daily Mail, Chelsea are pleased with the progress being made by Penders during the early stages of his loan against Strasbourg.
The report adds that Behdad Eghbali, the Blues co-owner, was in attendance on Sunday for Strasbourg’s 3-2 league victory away to Paris FC. Incidentally, Chelsea loanee Paez scored his first goal of the season in the five-goal thriller.
Penders, who’s considered the next Thibaut Courtois in Belgium, is clearly a talented gloveman with so much potential. Can he now follow in the same footsteps as Courtois by becoming a top-class goalkeeper in West London?
At Strasbourg, he’s got the perfect opportunity this year to play in both Ligue 1 and European football.
The 20-year-old is a colossal figure in his box and is excellent with the ball at his feet as well. How long will it be before Chelsea think he’s ready to be their No 1, though?

Could Chelsea block the path for Mike Penders?
It was previously reported that Chelsea may consider defensive signings in January because Blues head coach Enzo Maresca has concerns over the goalkeeper and centre-back position.
If Chelsea sign a new keeper, we’re somewhat concerned what it could mean for Penders. The reality is that Stamford Bridge officials need to be focused on building a first team for the here and now, even though a large part of their transfer strategy revolves around future stars.
It could be a similar scenario to what’s happened at Manchester City this summer. Talented English gloveman James Trafford made the move to the Etihad Stadium in July, but he’s already a backup option because Gianluigi Donnarumma joined Man City just a few weeks later.
