Report: What Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni has told Alejandro Garnacho to do at Chelsea

Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni will have a decision to make with new Chelsea signing Alejandro Garnacho next summer.

Scaloni has to pick his squad for the World Cup and will have Garnacho, who has eight caps for Argentina, in mind.

The 21-year-old is yet to start for Chelsea, but that could change on Tuesday evening when his side take on Lincoln City in the third round of the Carabao Cup.

After Wesley Fofana asked to come off because of tiredness, Garnacho was not substituted on against Manchester United last Saturday and thus failed to make an appearance against his former club.

Lionel Scaloni tells Alejandro Garnacho to deliver at Chelsea

Garnacho will want to have a successful season at Stamford Bridge to prove all of his doubters wrong, but Scaloni has also given him an extra bit of motivation.

According to DSports, the pair recently had a conversation where Garnacho asked about his current situation with the Argentina national team ahead of next year’s World Cup.

The same outlet claims that, in response, Scaloni told the former United star that a call-up is possible but only if he has a good season at Chelsea.

To do that, Garnacho first needs to win a spot in Enzo Maresca‘s starting XI, which is not a straightforward task.

The Chelsea head coach has been using Pedro Neto on the left in recent games, while Jamie Gittens is also an option there.

Troy Deeney backed Garnacho to shine against United last weekend but, again, he never got the opportunity to.

Alejandro Garnacho set for first Chelsea start

Maresca is likely to give Neto a rest against Lincoln, so you would expect Garnacho to make his first start for Chelsea at the LNER Stadium.

The Argentina international may start on the left, while Gittens is deployed on the opposite flank. Like Garnacho, Gittens is a left winger, but the former Borussia Dortmund man can also play on the right.

Whatever combination Maresca goes with in attack, Chelsea should be winning this match.
