Report: What happened between Nicolas Jackson and Enzo Maresca before deadline day exit

Nicolas Jackson was able to get his move from Chelsea to Bayern Munich on deadline day.

Jackson was close to joining Bayern last weekend, but Chelsea called off his loan deal after Liam Delap picked up a hamstring injury.

However, on Monday, Bayern managed to revive things and were finally able to get their man.

Bayern have signed Jackson on loan with an obligation to buy if certain conditions are met, meaning that the striker is likely to have played his last game for Chelsea.

Nicolas Jackson lost Enzo Maresca’s trust

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca was a huge fan of Jackson. Last season, Maresca described Jackson as the “perfect No.9”.

According to BBC Sport, though, the forward eventually lost the trust of the Italian and some of the hierarchy at Chelsea, which prompted him to leave the club.

Jackson had a very disappointing end to the 2024/25 campaign, receiving red cards in games against Newcastle United and Flamengo.

After a strong start to the season, he only managed to score 10 goals in the Premier League. Ultimately, it is no surprise that some at Stamford Bridge started to have doubts about the 24-year-old.

Arsenal legend Paul Merson remains a fan of Jackson, though, expressing his disbelief over the fact that Premier League clubs did not come in for him.

Although the Senegal international is currently at the German club on loan, he will be allowed to play against Chelsea later this month. In UEFA competitions, a loanee is permitted to face his parent club.

Something similar has already happened in the past when Chelsea took on Atletico Madrid in the 2013/14 Champions League campaign.

Thibaut Courtois was on loan at Atletico at the time but was allowed to play in the Spanish side’s semi-final tie against his parent club Chelsea.

Atletico went on to knock the Blues out and reach the Champions League final, which they lost to city rivals Real Madrid.
