'Spoke to them': Willy Caballero gives major injury update on Benoit Badiashile and Josh Acheampong

Chelsea assistant manager Willy Caballero has delivered an extremely positive injury update following the Blues’ 2-1 win against Liverpool on Saturday.

Chelsea won the game in stoppage time after Estevao Willian scored in the 95th minute to put Enzo Maresca‘s side 2-1 up.

Chelsea went into the match with a lot of injuries, with the likes of Cole Palmer and Andrey Santos missing. After the Club World Cup winners’ 2-1 victory over Benfica in the Champions League midweek, Maresca confirmed that Santos was out and would not be back until after the international break.

During their clash with Liverpool, it looked like Chelsea had picked up a couple more injuries.

Benoit Badiashile and Josh Acheampong confirm they’re OK

Chelsea’s two centre-backs, Benoit Badiashile and Josh Acheampong, both had to be withdrawn from the game at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

However, since then, Caballero has confirmed that their substitutions were just a precaution and that both players are fine.

Speaking in a post-match press conference in place of Maresca, who was not permitted to take questions following his sending off, Caballero said (via football.london): “It was just prevention because they made a great effort today. We spoke to them already and they said they were okay.”

Chelsea were without Levi Colwill, Wesley Fofana and Tosin Adarabioyo, so the above comes as a huge boost. Fofana is only suffering from a concussion so should be back soon.

All in all, Chelsea beating Liverpool and climbing to sixth in the Premier League table is great news for the club. Badiashile and Acheampong not being injured has only added to that.

Josh Acheampong ready for regular first-team role

Despite the amount of injuries that Chelsea have suffered in central defence this season, Maresca has been reluctant to use Acheampong.

However, the Chelsea manager started him against Liverpool, and the 19-year-old proved that he is capable of delivering at this level.

Acheampong coped well against an attack that boasted Mohamed Salah, Alexander Isak and Cody Gakpo.

As per Sofascore, the England Under-21 international was not dribbled past once and was able to win the one aerial duel he competed in. He is ready to be an important player for the Blues this term.
