What Brighton’s owners think of Liam Rosenior amid rumours he could become Chelsea manager

BlueCo’s own Liam Rosenior remains the frontrunner to replace Enzo Maresca at Chelsea, and like his potential new club, he has a relationship with Brighton.

Chelsea have been loyal customers of the Seagulls ever since BlueCo took the reins.

Some of Chelsea’s biggest stars came off the Brighton production line — Moises Caicedo, Marc Cucurella and Joao Pedro being the best examples.

In fact, parallels can be drawn between the way Chelsea is run and the strategy that has brought so much success at the AmEx.

With that said, Rosenior’s reputation at Brighton might be something Chelsea take into account in making their hiring decision.

Liam Rosenior highly regarded by Brighton owners

Rosenior hasn’t got the resume of some other managers Chelsea will be considering, but he is widely seen as a capable tactician and a top coach when it comes to developing youngsters. That’s how he got the Strasbourg job.

Before that, he was being seriously considered by Brighton, as Duncan Castles revealed on The Transfers Podcast.

He says: ““I can tell you at Brighton, he was incredibly well regarded by the ownership group there, and has been on the list to come in as manager through their last set of appointments.

“I think one of the main reasons why he hasn’t got the Brighton job is the timing hasn’t quite been right. Brighton felt he didn’t quite have enough top-level experience for him to bring in, but they saw the talent from an early stage and have had him listed for a long time.”

Chelsea’s tendency to trust Brighton’s judgement has paid dividends in recent seasons, so their stamp of approval is something to take into account.

Rosenior has a unique advantage over other Chelsea candidates

It’s an obvious statement, but Rosenior’s current position gives him a considerable edge in the race for the top job at Stamford Bridge.

Not only are Strasbourg also under the BlueCo umbrella, but the club from top to bottom is set up to mirror Chelsea. Everything down to the style of football.

Rosenior has been working with young players for over a year, and will be able to take that experience into this new role if he is the man selected. Strasbourg do need to find a Rosenior replacement first.

It’s not the sexy choice. It might be a safer one than many of the names put forward, though.

If he is brought in, fans would do well to accept it quickly and get behind him in order to avoid the season going further off the rails.
