Journalist shares when Wesley Fofana is expected to return after Chelsea injury on Saturday

Journalist Nathan Gissing has claimed on Twitter that Wesley Fofana is expected to return from injury in around ten days.

The Chelsea defender was forced off in the second half of the club’s 2-2 draw against Everton at the weekend.

The return of the Frenchman to full fitness has been remarkable for the Blues, and has come at a perfect time when looking at issues elsewhere.

Thiago Silva recently fell victim of his own injury problem, the first sign that his age may be about to become a factor in what has been a sensational playing career.

However, Fofana has picked up the role of leader of the defence extremely well, and until the weekend had won every game since his full return.

His marauding runs forward have been as important as his elite defensive skills, with him often launching attacks single-handedly in a way Reece James alongside him did before his own injury.

Fofana out for 10 days

However, there will have been familiar fears when Fofana was forced off in the second half after already completing numerous 90 minute appearances.

Gissing has claimed though that he should be returning before the end of the international break.

He said: “Wesley Fofana has withdrawn from the France squad due to a hamstring injury suffered against Everton, as @lequipe reported. Told Fofana is expected to be out for around ten days.”

The defence without his presence was instantly exposed at the weekend. Substitute Ellis Simms bullied his way past Kalidou Koulibaly on route to scoring the late equaliser.

With a big Champions League quarter-final tie against Real Madrid on the horizon, supporters will have a desire to see both Fofana and Silva fit for that fixture.

The competition holds the club’s only chance at silverware or even European qualification next season, and looks like one of the most open in recent history.
