Ben Chilwell’s three-word reaction on Instagram to Graham Potter being sacked as Chelsea manager

Chelsea Defender Ben Chilwell was the first Chelsea player to comment after Graham Potter was sacked by the club at the weekend.

The England international took to Instagram to say his thanks for the former manager’s work during his brief time at Stamford Bridge.

Sunday saw Potter finally put out of his misery as far as being manager of the Blues is concerned, with things reaching the point where results had become impossible to defend.

Upon seeing his side enter the bottom half of the table after two thirds of the season being complete, Todd Boehly, who had shown plenty of resistance to the idea of replacing the manager again this season, was left with no choice but to pull the trigger.

The former Brighton man can rightfully feel let down by his players, whose poor performances again go unpunished in favour of one man taking the slack.

However, one man he won’t be looking to blame is Chilwell. The former Leicester man has been an ever-present since returning from injury.

Whilst bringing defensive stability with his comeback, he has also shone as Chelsea’s most dangerous player going forwards. His goal against Leicester was superb, and he was unlucky not to add to his tally against Aston Villa.

He was also the first player to comment publicly after the sacking, taking to Instagram to simply say: “Thank you, gaffer.”

The hunt is now on for the Blues to find a new manager for the second time this season. The timing of Julian Nagelsmann’s sacking from Bayern makes him an obvious candidate for the job.

However, his reported original plan was to wait until the end of the season before taking a new project on, potentially opening the door for other candidates.

The likes of Mauricio Pochettino, who was close to getting the job when Potter did, is reportedly set for another interview with the club.
