'Contacts': Chelsea are about to speak to title winner about becoming their next manager today – Romano
Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Chelsea are about to speak to Julian Nagelsmann again today about becoming their new manager.
He claimed on Twitter that the German remains their favourite candidate for the job as they look to replace Graham Potter at the helm.
The former Brighton manager was put out of his misery last weekend after a dire few months of form domestically.
Todd Boehly had been Potter’s greatest defender for a while now, however seeing his side drop into the bottom half of the table was enough for him to pull the trigger.
Discussions are now beginning to take place over who will take over the role, Chelsea’s third manager of the season.
The timing of Nagelsmann’s sacking from Bayern Munich made him a clear candidate early on for the Blues job, however it has been claimed that he is very much admired by the board.
Nagelsmann to be spoken to today
Romano has claimed that discussions which have already taken place regarding potentially taking over are set to continue today.
He said: “Contacts between Chelsea and Julian Nagelsmann will continue today in order to make a decision on both sides with German coach favourite candidate since Sunday.
“Luis Enrique remains one of the names in the list. No contacts with Tite, Spalletti, De Zerbi despite links.”
It was originally believed that Nagelsmann was hoping to wait until the end of the season before taking his new job. This could leave the door open for other candidates to stake their claim.
It has been reported today that Mauricio Pochettino is awaiting contact from the club, after almost being handed the job to replace Thomas Tuchel.
With his experience at the top well known, the former Spurs and PSG man could certainly be a viable candidate for the role.
