'I'm coming to my level': £33m Chelsea player makes admission on 'big' club future

Kalidou Koulibaly has laid out his intention to remain at Chelsea for the next few seasons, with the defender keen to make a name for himself in west London.

Speaking to the Times, the Senegalese international revealed that he wants to show Chelsea supporters what he’s truly made of after a difficult first year in the Premier League, with the Blues spending £33m in the summer to bring the 31-year-old from Napoli to the English capital.

Like many of Chelsea’s signings this season, though, Koulibaly has struggled for form amid what has been one of the Blues’ worst campaigns in some time, with interim manager Frank Lampard handed the unfortunate task of salvaging anything from this year.

Indeed, Koulibaly joined Chelsea with the reputation as one of the best defenders in world football. And for the former Napoli star, the centre-back is keen to reclaim this title in the years to come as a Chelsea player.

Koulibaly said on when asked about his form on the pitch for Chelsea: “I know I’m not at 100% yet, but think I’m coming to my level. Chelsea made a big decision to sign me, and there’s a big desire in me to give back. I want to be part of this club for many years.

“This is not the year Chelsea were expecting, but sometimes when you have big changes, new proprietors, and half the team is new, everybody has to adapt. But we know how big the ambition is here and we’re going to work to win back the confidence of the supporters.”

Koulibaly’s stock remains quite high despite the poor season the Chelsea no. 26 has endured alongside his new teammates. Yet if there was a player that could help the Blues return to their former peak, it will be the 31-year-old Senegal superstar.

As we know, Chelsea have got to get their next managerial appointment spot on if they’re to succeed in the Premier League. And there’s a strong chance that Koulibaly will be starting for the Blues’ next season regardless of who Todd Boehly and his team choose as their permanent successor to Graham Potter.
