'They are speaking': Chelsea in talks to appoint 52-year-old who desperately wants the job - Fabrizio Romano
Luis Enrique is keen to be appointed as Chelsea’s next permanent manager amid news from Fabrizio Romano that the two parties are still in contact over a potential agreement.
Speaking on the Here We Go Podcast, the Italian transfer guru revealed that the former Spain and FC Barcelona manager is one of the two early favourites to take over at Chelsea, with Julian Nagelsmann the other contender to be appointed at Stamford Bridge this summer.
Romano said: “Who is going to be the Chelsea coach? That is the crucial question. As I mentioned before, they are speaking to Julian Nagelsmann, they are speaking to Luis Enrique. Nagelsmann remains the favourite for the future, Luis Enrique is still there and he wants the job.”

Enrique has been out of the job since late 2022 after being dismissed by the Spanish FA for Spain’s early exit from the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, though the 52-year-old is still seemingly held in high regard by the likes of Chelsea, who could now appoint the former Barcelona man.
Indeed, with the end of the season just over a month away, having a manager appointed in the coming weeks could be massive for Chelsea, and if Nagelsmann is unwilling to take the job, Enrique will be the perfect second-choice option for the west London side.
Chelsea appointing Enrique could be a great long-term decision

‘Chelsea’ and ‘long-term manager’s are two phrases that haven’t usually stuck together in the 21st century, yet Enrique could be the man to change that given how keen Todd Boehly is on the idea of having a coach who leads the club for multiple seasons.
Despite the World Cup, Enrique is one of the few managers in the history of European football to win the perfect treble, and at Chelsea, the former Barcelona figure could be perfect to lead the Blues into a new era after multiple steps back under Graham Potter this season.
