'Would be a step up': Stan Collymore believes 24-year-old simply must leave Chelsea this summer
Stan Collymore believes that Mason Mount leaving Chelsea would be a massive step in the playmaker’s career, with Liverpool reportedly interested in signing the 24-year-old.
Writing for CaughtOffside, the pundit suggested that the England international departing west London for any of Chelsea’s European rivals would be considered an improvement on where Mount currently is, with Collymore name-dropping the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United.
The Cobham academy graduate has been heavily linked with an exit from Chelsea this summer as the club fail to sign the midfield down to a new contract, with Liverpool slowly emerging as the new favourites to sign the creative maestro this summer.

With Liverpool now surging up the Premier League standings having won their last two fixtures, Chelsea stand with what feels like zero chance of qualifying for Europe, and for Collymore, Mount leaving for the Anfield side would be a step up in the midfielder’s career.
Collymore said: “There were rumours that Todd Boehly wanted to give him a new contract but I think that going to Liverpool would be a step up. I think if Chelsea were above them in the table it would still be a step up because going to a club like Liverpool, United, Real Madrid, Bayern, Juventus and Milan, they’re once-in-a-lifetime clubs.”
Collymore wrong to say Mount leaving Chelsea would be a step-up

Mount departing Chelsea could ultimately build down to the player wanting a fresh start in his career after two seasons of relative stagnation, yet whilst a club like Liverpool could be best for the midfielder and his style of play, it seems harsh by Collymore to label the move as a step-up.
As we know, the west London side have been one of the most successful sides in Europe this century, with Mount himself winning the UEFA Champions League. And although Liverpool have the history and prestige to trump anyone, the club as a whole are hardly a step up from Chelsea.
