‘He will’: Frank Lampard now promises to play 19-year-old in Chelsea’s final two games of the season

Frank Lampard has now promised that he will feature Carney Chukwuemeka in Chelsea’s final two games of the season.

He claimed in his post-match discussion with Football London that the midfielder impressed when he came off the bench against Manchester City yesterday.

It was unfortunate that Chukwuemeka was not handed a start as Chelsea turned into the welcoming party for the brand new champions of England.

Pep Guardiola heavily rotated his side, potentially opening up an opportunity for Lampard to do the same.

Instead, the interim boss opted for a team that mimicked perhaps close to the traditional strongest on paper, which saw a number of young players not handed that opportunity.

The Blues’ best performer in the 1-0 defeat was Lewis Hall, with the teenager being held back from joining up with the England U20 side at the World Cup in Argentina.

Chukwuemeka later met the same fate, although did not start over the likes of Ruben Loftus-Cheek yesterday.

Lampard has now claimed that the youngster is in line for more minutes before the season ends.

He said: “You’ve got to wait your time and have to understand. I want to get him minutes but I have to think about my job. I thought he did well when he came on.

“He will get more minutes I hope in these next two games coming up then he may go to a World Cup after that and next season he can be a fantastic player going forward if he does all of the things he needs to do.”

With the two remaining games being against likely top four finishers Manchester United and Newcastle United, giving opportunities to players like Chukwuemeka is surely the priority for the Blues ahead of next season.
