The position Pep Guardiola wants to use Mateo Kovacic in if he signs him from Chelsea - journalist
Journalist Jack Gaughan has claimed that Pep Guardiola is planning to use Mateo Kovacic in one of two positions if he signs him from Chelsea this summer.
He took to Twitter to claim that the Manchester City boss sees him as either a ‘Number 6’ or a ‘Number 8’ style of midfielder.
Reports broke yesterday that the Champions had entered discussions with Kovacic over potentially bringing him in, as Chelsea plan somewhat of a clear out of their squad this summer.

Midfield is the position that there has been the most talk over changes at Stamford Bridge. N’golo Kante’s contract is currently set to expire at the end of the season, with no new deal yet to be announced.
It was believed that he was close to signing an extension earlier this season, however the lengthy recruitment process regarding the new manager seems to have pushed things back a bit.
There is also now seemingly no way back for Mason Mount at Stamford Bridge next season, despite Mauricio Pochettino becoming the new man in charge.
Guardiola wants Kovacic
It has been claimed that he has agreed personal terms with Manchester United, and will now wait to see if the two clubs can come to an agreement on a deal.
Kovacic may be set to join the list of players leaving, with Guardiola seemingly being a fan of the player since their very public discussion on the pitch following a game between the two teams.

Now, Gaughan has claimed the manager already has a plan for the midfielder if he can bring him in.
He said: “Kovacic viewed as a versatile midfielder who can be used as a No6 and a No8 by Man City.”
With Chelsea looking to sign one or two new midfielders this summer, it looks as if Kovacic may well be surplus to requirements under Pochettino.
