‘In the next 24 hours’: Sky Sports now give major update on Chelsea’s £48m bid to sign Romeo Lavia
Sky Sports News have now given a big update on Chelsea’s efforts to sign Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia this summer.
A video on their Twitter has claimed that it is expected that the Championship side will reject their £48m offer to sign the 19-year-old this summer.
It has been widely expected over the last few weeks that a deal for Liverpool to sign Lavia would be reached after negotiations between those clubs has continued.
The Reds, who will travel to Stamford Bridge on Sunday for their first Premier League game of the season, were reportedly very close to the asking price set by the Championship side for his services.
However, late last night news broke that Chelsea had made a sensational offer to sign the youngster. The bid is said to have topped any offer made up to this point by Liverpool.
Originally, it was claimed that Southampton had not yet decided whether to accept or reject the bid, with it being so close to what they are holding out for.
Major update on Lavia
However, Sky Sports News have now claimed that things could accelerate in the next 24 hours or so between the Blues and the Saints.
They said: “Chelsea have made a £48m offer for the 19-year-old midfielder. Liverpool have already had three bids rejected, the last in the region of £45m.
“Southampton value Lavia at £50m. Chelsea’s bid for Lavia is expected to be rejected but as the offer is just £2m short of Southampton’s valuation, talks could accelerate in the next 24 hours.”
It remains to be seen whether their efforts to sign the Belgian signal the end of their intentions to sign Moises Caicedo from Brighton, who has been well-documented as their number one target.
However, it is easily believable that they could be after both this summer.
