‘Masterstroke’: Micah Richards thinks club have made an amazing move buy buying £30m player from Chelsea
Micah Richards has claimed that he is really impressed by Manchester City signing Mateo Kovacic from Chelsea this summer.
He told ‘The Rest is Football’ podcast that he believes the Champions have been lacking a player with his qualities since they lost Yaya Toure.
Kovacic was on show from the start yesterday for City in their traditional curtain raiser in the form of the Community Shield.

He was up against former teammate Kai Havertz, who started for Arsenal and missed a big chance to find the net in the first half.
It was his side that came out on top though, and the Croatian international will be hoping he did enough to start the season when they get going against Burnley on Friday.
Richards thinks the treble winners have made a smart addition by bringing in the midfielder for a fee of £30m from Stamford Bridge.
Richards praises Kovacic
He said: “I think losing Gundogan is massive but bringing in Kovacic is a masterstroke. He’s a different player in terms of when he’s dribbling.
“Gundogan would open up a game in terms of pass, pass, forward run, whereas Kovacic can beat three players with his skill and the way he drives past midfielders. I don’t think City have had that for a while, even going back to like Yaya. I think Kovacic is massive.”

Chelsea are still trying to fill the void left by his departure in midfield as they plan to find the perfect partner for club-record signing Enzo Fernandez.
They are prioritising a move for Moises Caicedo, with a new bid expected from the Blues in the coming days.
It is unclear though whether they will meet the price Brighton are asking for to get it over the line.
