‘Next 24 hours’: Chelsea may receive a formal offer for £175k-a-week player in the next few hours – journalist

Journalist Ben Jacobs has claimed that Chelsea are currently yet to receive a formal offer for Marc Cucrella to leave this summer.

He said on his Twitter space however that it has been indicated that they may be about to receive a bid in the next 24 hours for his services.

With just a week or so to go in the summer transfer window, it remains to be seen what the future holds for Cucurella.

He is yet to make a competitive appearance for Mauricio Pochettino’s side. He was only sporadically used in the successful pre-season campaign too.

Ben Chilwell has been the very obvious first choice in the left-back position so far this season, and after Reece James’ injury he has been donning the captain’s armband too.

Cucurella offer in the next 24 hours

The development of Ian Maatsen as a genuine first team option after his return from loan has not made it easy for Cucurella to prove the doubters wrong after a tough first season.

Even if a permanent deal doesn’t arise as a possibility, it would be beneficial for Chelsea to avoid paying his £175,000-a-week wages if he is not being used.

Jacobs has claimed that while the Blues have not yet received an official bid, this may change in the next day or so.

He said: “With Cucurella, as of early afternoon, talks had taken place over the weekend and there wasn’t yet a formal offer but quite a few sources have indicated that that might change over the next 24 hours.”

Despite joining for a large fee last summer, it seems as if the experiment of Cucurella looks set to go down as a failure.
