‘A shock’: 24-year-old ‘brilliant’ Premier League striker says he was stunned Chelsea let him leave
Arsenal and England striker Eddie Nketiah has claimed that he was stunned when Chelsea made the decision to release him as a youth prospect.
He told the Evening Standard that the moment gave him the extra motivation he needed to go and become the player he is today.
Nketiah’s strong club form has seen him break in to Gareth Southgate’s setup for the upcoming fixtures.

He has come on leaps and bounds the last few seasons, being described as ‘brilliant’ by pundits for his work.
While there is no place for Raheem Sterling, the Arsenal man is in line to make his debut this week for his country.
The same fate hopefully awaits Levi Colwill, who has avoided injury according to a recent scan.
Nketiah shocked at Chelsea release
There is a world where the duo could have been competing together at Stamford Bridge, with them both previously being part of the academy.
Nketiah has claimed though that being let go only made him the player he is today.
He said: “I think it did [make me more determined]. I was there from the ages of nine and 14 and it came as a shock to me because I was doing well at the time.

“Declan [Rice] was of that age group as well and had a similar experience. I think it gives you an awakening and just knowing that things can change like that – that you can lose everything you have worked for.
“It gives you that extra bit of motivation and resilience when times are hard. I’m able to dig a level deeper than maybe some people can or don’t want to go into. It’s all part of the experience.
“Some boys might not have experienced it but then they will have had lows in their careers. This was my journey and it has helped me by who I am today.”
