'Very strong': Laurence Stewart claims 23-year-old Chelsea player already has a great bond with Mauricio Pochettino
Reece James and Mauricio Pochettino already have a great bond after a short time working together at Chelsea.
That is according to Blues co-sporting director Laurence Stewart.
Mauricio Pochettino, 51, is now a few months into his spell as Chelsea’s head coach.
One of his most notable decisions so far has been the appointment of the new club captain, with Reece James taking the armband.
Therefore, it’s not the greatest surprise to hear the 23-year-old defender actually has this close relationship with Pochettino.
“Mauricio was heavily involved in that decision [to make James captain] and has developed a very strong working relationship with Reece, which is great,” Stewart told Chelsea’s official website.
James is certainly one of the most popular individuals in the Chelsea squad, so it’s a smart move from Pochettino to make him a senior figure and face of the club.
Hopefully, the England right-back isn’t going to have another painful season constantly interrupted by injuries.
The latest update on his current injury is that Pochettino shared yesterday he hopes to have James back fit again before the October international break (Chelsea’s official website).
The man-management side of Pochettino is certainly something we’re hearing more and more about now.
If he can get this young and talented group playing together, we think there could be something special there.
It’s going to be interesting to see if the like of Jame, Enzo Fernandez and Ben Chilwell really emerge as senior figures.
