'He loves the club': £45m player now desperate to stay at Chelsea - journalist

Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher is desperate to stay at Stamford Bridge.

That is according to TEAMtalk journalist Fraser Fletcher.

Conor Gallagher was linked with a move away from west London all summer, but Fletcher says he is keen to remain at Chelsea because “he loves the club”.

In a bit of a surprising development, the 23-year-old has been such a key player for Mauricio Pochettino this season, captaining the Blues in the absence of Reece James and Ben Chilwell.

Chelsea did buy Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia in the last transfer window, but the latter is currently out injured, giving Gallagher an opportunity to play.

According to the Daily Mail, Tottenham Hotspur made a £40m bid for the Englishman when the market was open, but his current employers valued him at £45m.

Conor Gallagher wants to stay at Chelsea

Chelsea are Gallagher’s boyhood club, so it is not a shock to hear that he wants to remain at Stamford Bridge.

Right now, he is receiving minutes at his boyhood club and is even getting to captain them. It is only normal for him to be happy at this moment in time. Whether that continues as the season goes on remains to be seen.

When Lavia and Christopher Nkunku return from injury, Pochettino may have to find a way to accommodate them into the team, especially the latter. It means someone like Gallagher may have to be sacrificed.

Gallagher has to keep playing the way he has been and if the England international does, perhaps he could become too much of an important player for Pochettino to drop.
