Report: Close source says don't rule out 23-year-old player leaving Chelsea in the future

A source with great knowledge about Reece James has delivered an interesting update on the Chelsea captain this afternoon.

Reece James, who’s been at Chelsea since he was a youngster, is the poster boy around Stamford Bridge and club captain.

However, there’s been some recent transfer speculation about the 23-year-old Blues defender.

Miguel Delaney’s newsletter claimed last week that Manchester City have earmarked James as a transfer target to replace Kyle Walker at right-back. Meanwhile, journalist Dean Jones told GiveMeSport earlier this month that Real Madrid could end up making a move for James at the end of the season.

The fact that two of the best teams in the world are linked with Chelsea’s full-back highlights just how good a player he actually is.

Transfer news

TEAMtalk has now claimed that James has made it clear he doesn’t want to leave Chelsea to join a Premier League rival. In fact, he wants to become a champion of England with his boyhood club.

It is agreed that there’s interest from both Man City and Real Madrid in James, but a swap to the Etihad Stadium seems out of the question.

However, a source with knowledge of the situation has explained that a transfer to Real Madrid in the future isn’t impossible.

The source TEAMtalk: “Reece and his camp are aware that if he wanted to leave, City would be first in the queue – but that isn’t under consideration. He loves Chelsea, they love him, and he wants to lift the Premier League as their captain.

“In the future, could he be tempted by Real Madrid? That would depend how things go, but don’t rule it out.”

Reece James bleeds blue

We’re not too concerned when it comes to the future of James, whose current deal in West London still has another four and a half years on it.

He’s stepped into the role as Chelsea skipper this campaign and is a senior player.

The academy graduate is definitely good enough to get into any side in the world, but his immedidate focus is on Chelsea and trying to stay fit.
