'We are understanding': Sky share why Enzo Fernandez was taken off in first-half for Chelsea tonight

It has been reported why Enzo Fernandez was taken off after just half an hour of tonight’s EFL Cup tie against Newcastle United.

The World Cup winner was brought back into the side after his rest at the weekend in the Premier League against Sheffield United, as the Blues ran out 2-0 winners at Stamford Bridge.

Fernandez returned to the starting side to feature alongside Moises Caicedo, with Conor Gallagher on paper playing slightly further ahead.

This team selection from Mauricio Pochettino barely lasted 30 minutes though, before the Argentine was replaced for Armando Broja, causing a switch up to the system.

Sky Sports went on to explain exactly why the player was replaced, with the decision coming moments after he had been seen in conversation with the manager.

They said: “We are understanding that Enzo Fernandez wasn’t feeling very well.”

Chelsea fans will be hoping the issue is nothing serious, with their injury list not seeming to get any smaller.

The manager still felt as if he was unable to start both Malo Gusto or Christopher Nkunku, with the duo returning from injuries in recent days and weeks.

The Blues entered half-time a goal down, with an error from Benoit Badiashile allowing Callum Wilson the chance to score from close range.

While the hosts have had plenty of possession, a clear route to goal has not been easy to find up to now.
