£25m Chelsea player has just posted a two-word injury update on Instagram

Chelsea’s Robert Sanchez has provided a small injury update on social media this morning.

Blues goalkeeper Robert Sanchez, 26, has been unavailable through injury for over a month now.

The Spanish gloveman has missed the last nine games across all competitions with a knee problem.

In fairness, 24-year-old Djordje Petrovic has done a great job stepping into the starting keeper role as his replacement.

We’re now even questioning what Chelsea head coach Mauricio Pochettino will do in the second half of the season when he’s got both senior goalkeepers fit and available.

We’re still waiting to hear an official line about when Sanchez can return to the pitch.

The £25 million goalkeeper (Sky Sports) has just shared via social media on Saturday morning that his comeback is imminent.

“Nearly there,” Sanchez wrote on his Instagram story.

Incidentally, the story included an image of him wearing protection over his leg.

Robert Sanchez injury update

Let’s hope we get a detailed explanation from Pochettino regarding Sanchez’s fitness ahead of Tuesday night.

Chelsea host Middlesbrough on Tuesday in the second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-finals, which they currently trail 1-0 on aggregate from the first leg.

In our view, Petrovic should start in-between the sticks for this crucial cup tie regardless of Sanchez’s injury status. There’s finally a bit of consistency building in Pochettino’s line-up, so four wins from their last five games may not be a fluke.

The Evening Standard recently reported that Chelsea are really happy moving forward with Sanchez and Petrovic as their main goalkeeping options. One of them is going to be bitterly disappointed soon, though.

Sanchez had possession of the starting position and was selected as the first-choice goalkeeper this season, but Petrovic has certainly made the most of the opportunity gifted to him.
