‘Around the squad’: 19-year-old Chelsea youngster could now be about to join up with the first team - journalist
Journalist Nizaar Kinsella has claimed that one Chelsea youngster could now be about to be involved with the first team.
He told the ‘London is Blue’ podcast that Zak Sturge may be included as a result of an injury crisis in his position.
Sturge found opportunities difficult to come by during his loan spell in the first half of the season at Peterborough United.

Therefore, he was recalled back to Stamford Bridge for the rest of the campaign, with it yet to be reported exactly what the club are planning for the second half of the season.
Now, Kinsella has now claimed that there is a possibility that he remains as an option for the club to play with the first team for the remainder of the campaign.
He said: “I can certainly see him being in that category with Andrey Santos and Alfie Gilchrist – around the squad, acting as cover, and then seeing where we are at the end of the transfer window. We’ve still got a bit of time left.

“I think Chilwell is quite close. But he’s useful, I think. Remember, if he plays for Chelsea he won’t be able to go on loan.”
Left-back has been a position where Chelsea have seen a number of injuries affect them this season. Ben Chilwell and Marc Cucurella have both seen injuries restrict their time on the pitch in recent months.
The manager hasn’t trusted Ian Maatsen in that role this season, with him only making one Premier League appearance despite being fit for the majority of the season.
This has led to reports that he could be on the move, with the Dutchman reportedly already agreeing personal terms over a move to Borussia Dortmund later this month.
