'Spoke to me': Benoit Badiashile says £110k-a-week Chelsea player was a massive help recently
Chelsea’s Benoit Badiashile has admitted that one teammate came to his aid during a recent poor performance against Newcastle United.
The Blues ended up beating Newcastle via penalties during the League Cup quarter-final tie between them on 19 December.
However, Benoit Badiashile certainly went through one of his tougher displays in a Chelsea shirt last month.
The 22-year-old centre-back was shaky in defence during the cup tie. In particular, he gifted Newcastle’s Callum Wilson a goal in the first-half.
Thankfully, Mauricio Pochettino’s side progressed and are bidding to reach the competition’s final when they host Middlesbrough on Tuesday in the semis.

Badiashile has now shared in an interview his frustration against Newcastle.
It’s refreshing to hear that a half-time chat with Chelsea teammate Thiago Silva, along with the head coach, helped settle him down.
“I was a little bit disappointed [at half-time against Newcastle], but the coach spoke to me, and so did Thiago. It was difficult, but I knew with these players that we could do great things, so I believed, and my second-half performance was completely different,” Badiashile said via Chelsea’s official website.
It’s another great example of how Silva is the leader in the dressing room without actually wearing the captain’s armband.
Aged 39, Silva is the oldest outfield player in the Premier League and filled with so much experience at the elite level.
The £110,000-a-week Brazilian centre-half (Spotrac) is such a big help to Chelsea both on and off the pitch.
Incidentally, journalist Simon Phillips shared via Substack that Chelsea have internally discussed keeping Silva for another year.
