4-2-3-1: Chelsea's strongest XI as window slams shut includes Enzo Fernandez decision and just one new signing - opinion

Chelsea have their squad for the 24/25 season. Well, at least until the January rolls around.

Enzo Maresca did not hold back in his first window in charge at Stamford Bridge. The Blues got some cracking signings to add to their roster, including Pedro Neto, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Joao Felix.

This is added to an existing pool of ludicrous talent – with budding names such as Cole Palmer, Moises Caicedo and Levi Colwill lighting up London.

But with a simply insane Chelsea first-team squad at Maresca’s disposal, this begs the question – what is his strongest XI?

Robert Sanchez

Easy decision in net, Robert Sanchez has to be the number one going forward this season. For how long after this, who knows – but he is Maresca’s choice between the sticks this campaign.

Marc Cucurella

Euro 2024 winner Marc Cucurella is the starting left-back. He may not be everyone’s favourite player in the footballing stratosphere – but he’s a top left-back.

Levi Colwill

On the left-hand side next to Cucurella has to be his left-footed counterpart Levi Colwill. The towering Englishman is definitely a preferred option to Benoit Badiashile.

Wesley Fofana

Ever since his return from his horror injury, Wesley Fofana has proven to be a fine centre-back for Chelsea. The Frenchman oozes class, and is a competent partner for Colwill.

Reece James

When fit, Chelsea’s captain is the undeniable choice at right-back. That being said – it is a case of when he isn’t in the medical tent, with Reece James a serial sufferer of injuries.

Moises Caicedo

Our first choice for a holding midfielder has to be Moises Caicedo. He arrived at Stamford Bridge with high expectations due to his price tag, but now he’s living up to them. The Ecuadorian is class.

Romeo Lavia

Controversial to leave Enzo Fernandez out, but Romeo Lavia has to be the better option. There is so much more balance in the Chelsea midfield with the Belgian involved, so it simply has to be the former Southampton man.

Christopher Nkunku

Nestling in the number ten role is Christopher Nkunku. He enjoyed a tough start to life around Cobham, having to sit out for almost the entirety of his first season – but now he’s ready to showcase his full abilities, and we think the attacking midfield role is where he’ll flourish.

Pedro Neto

The first, and only one, of Maresca’s signings – Pedro Neto is at left wing. He’s made a promising start to life for the Blues already. His pace and dynamism will be a breath of fresh air throughout the campaign.

Cole Palmer

The main man, Cole Palmer simply has to be played in his favoured position. The PFA Young Player of the Season is looking for another stellar season in blue, and he’ll be a regular throughout.

With Chelsea missing out on Victor Osimhen – the likely candidate to lead the line is now Nicolas Jackson.
