'He will': Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola makes confident prediction about Enzo Maresca at Chelsea
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has been speaking about Chelsea counterpart Enzo Maresca ahead of a first meeting between them in the dugout.
Chelsea and Man City meet on Saturday night in a pre-season friendly match in the United States. Interestingly, it’s a preview before the English giants face off on 18 August in their Premier League opener at Stamford Bridge.
For Enzo Maresca, he’s halfway through his first pre-season schedule as the Blues head coach, where he’s trying to implement his possession-based football. Journalist Kieran Gill has explained via X that Maresca has been working on specific passing drills in training.
The 44-year-old Italian previously worked as an assistant to Guardiola at Man City. Afterwards, he was a huge success as the Leicester City manager when they were promoted from the Championship last season.

Pep Guardiola predicts Enzo Maresca success
Guardiola has given a vote of confidence to Maresca by predicting the Chelsea boss to end up being a success.
When discussing Maresca in his pre-match press conference this week, Guardiola said via Man City’s official website: “I am really pleased. We spent a special one year, but more when he was in the second team, he is an incredibly lovely person, him and his family.
“He did a really good job at Leicester. I wish him all the best because he deserves it. Nice people deserve the best.
“As a manager to have success, the most important thing is you must believe in something deeply and no matter the results, stick with the idea. That’s why he believes in what he does. He will have success – I don’t know how long, but he will have it.”
Chelsea boss also received Carlo Ancelotti hype
Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti, who previously had a successful spell in Chelsea’s dugout, has recently spoken highly about Maresca. It’s very encouraging when you’ve got football greats Ancelotti and Maresca praising you.
During an interview with John Obi Mikel’s ‘Obi One Podcast’, Ancelotti backed Maresca to succeed at Chelsea.
Let’s hope he can become the latest Italian to enjoy a successful period in West London as the Chelsea manager.
