Tom Lockyer has just delivered a glowing verdict on one Chelsea player and mentioned he’s the toughest opponent he’s come up against.
There’s no doubt that the current Chelsea squad is stacked with talent. In fact, the Blues have strengthened it further with several additions in this summer transfer window.
Pedro Neto was confirmed as the newest signing at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, completing a high-profile switch from Premier League rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Frank Leboeuf thinks Neto is a good signing for Chelsea, as quoted by ESPN. Hopefully, the 24-year-old winger can keep himself fit and show his best form in West London.
He’s certainly walking into a dressing room at Chelsea with a lot of talented young individuals.
Tom Lockyer hails Nicolas Jackson
Tom Lockyer has just raved about the star quality of Blues striker Nicolas Jackson, recalling the difficulty when playing against him last season. The 23-year-old striker actually scored in Chelsea’s 3-0 league win at home to Luton Town in August 2023.
Jackson, who cost Chelsea £32m (The Guardian) last summer from Villarreal, has big individual ability. Despite criticism throughout much of his debut year in English football, he still ended up with 17 goals across all competitions.
When asked who’s the best striker he’s come up against, Lockyer said on the GOLF LIFE YouTube channel: “Probably Nicolas Jackson. In terms of playing against him—physical, power, strength—I think he’s got it all…
“I think he’s got to adapt a little bit more and then obviously add goals, which is the hardest thing in the game. I could see there’s a player there. I think maybe just a bit of confidence.”
A big second year for Nicolas Jackson
Jackson should set himself the aim to break the 20-goal barrier in the upcoming season, which is the benchmark for top attackers.
There’s so much to admire about the Senegal international when it comes to his overall game. He’s fast, strong and works hard in the Chelsea XI, but he just needs to find that clinical instinct inside the penalty box.
During a recent interview quoted by Football.London, Maresca insisted he views Jackson as a central striker. Let’s hope this second campaign with the Blues is the one where he steps his game up a bit and becomes the long-term No 9 option.
