Paul Merson makes prediction about how Pedro Neto will do at Chelsea next season

Chelsea fan and pundit Paul Merson certainly wears his heart on his sleeve when discussing the club he supports.

For instance, Paul Merson recently shared via X his disappointment about Conor Gallagher’s imminent Chelsea exit to join Atletico Madrid.

The latest news at Stamford Bridge that has him reacting is the transfer story involving Pedro Neto, which has come from nowhere in the last 24 hours and exploded into life. It’s widely reported across the media that Wolves attacker Neto is about to join the Blues.

Journalist Fabrice Hawkins first broke the news via X on Friday that Wolves winger Neto is set to join Chelsea.

It’s now been claimed by journalist Fabrizio Romano on X that Neto will undergo a medical in London on Saturday ahead of the transfer switch.

Paul Merson delighted with Pedro Neto signing

Merson sounds delighted to hear Chelsea are on the brink of landing Neto from Wolves. In fact, he’s predicted that the 24-year-old attacker will be crucial in the upcoming campaign if he can keep himself fit, which has been an issue in recent years.

Merson wrote on X: “Neto is a great signing for Chelsea, top player! If he can stay fit he will be a key player this year.”

Where will Pedro Neto play for Chelsea?

Neto has played a variety of attacking positions during his impressive Wolves career. Mostly, he’ll start in one of the wide positions.

When Neto plays on the right, he’ll look to cut infield on his stronger left foot. He’s equally impressive as a left-winger as well and a superb threat one-on-one with opposition full-backs.

There’s certainly a lot of competition for places at Chelsea in the wide roles, but an in-form Neto definitely has the quality to force his way into the starting line-up.

Raheem Sterling and Mykhailo Mudryk, the main left-wingers in the Blues squad, should feel threatened by Neto’s expected arrival. As for the right wing, Cole Palmer or Noni Madueke appear to be the most likely to nail down that starting position, but let’s see what head coach Enzo Maresca decides to do with his best XI.
