Wolves expert delivers verdict on Pedro Neto and his expected move to Chelsea

Chelsea are reportedly set to complete the signing of Wolverhampton Wanderers star Pedro Neto, and we spoke to Jack Dawson at Molineux News to find out more about him.

It looks like the Chelsea squad is about to get even bigger because there’s widespread reports that the Blues will sign Pedro Neto.

Journalist Fabrice Hawkins first broke the transfer news via X on Friday that Chelsea will soon secure the signing of Wolves winger Neto. The 24-year-old’s spent five years as a Wolves player since joining them from Braga, but he’s about to move down to the English capital city.

It’s since been reported by The Times that Neto will undergo a Chelsea medical in the next 24 hours after the Premier League clubs reached a £54m agreement.

Pedro Neto legacy at Wolves

First up, we asked Molineux News writer Jack Dawson about what sort of legacy Neto will leave behind at Wolves.

The Wolves expert said: “Pedro Neto will always be fondly thought of amongst the Molineux faithful. The winger set the stadium alight and has helped carry the club to numerous victories.

“Since moving to England, Neto quickly established himself as an explosive winger, not afraid to take on a defender and drive the ball into the box. This helped Wolves massively over the years and he arguably saved the club from a potential relegation battle in the 2020/21 campaign where he dragged the club from the scruff of its neck to a mid-table finish.

“While injuries no doubt stopped fans from overseeing the best of Neto throughout an entire campaign, his departure will leave a hole at the club which may not be filled for some time.”

Pedro Neto the player

Chelsea fans may have their own opinion of Neto from previous games against Wolves in recent seasons. What’s the Wolves perspective from those that watch him on a weekly basis think, though?

We asked Dawson what Neto’s like as a player and what his greatest attributes are.

He explained: “Neto is the kind of player that gets fans off their seats. He shows no fear on the field and consistently drives to get another goal or an assist for his club.

“On his day, he is unstoppable which has been proven time and time again in both the Premier League and the Europa League. However, off the pitch, he is also humble and developed a real bond with the fans and the rest of his teammates.

“Neto’s best attribute on the pitch is easily his creativity. In the last campaign, he could have easily finished as the top assister in the Premier League if it was not for two long-term injuries. On top of this, he can also beat the majority of defenders easily and will often cut inside and attempt to bag a goal which he is more than capable of doing.”

Rating Pedro Neto’s chance of success at Chelsea

Finally, we asked Wolves expert Dawson whether or not Neto is likely to be a success in Chelsea’s colours next season.

He answered: “It is hard to say how well Neto will do at Chelsea. On his day, he is easily one of the best players in the league and would shine at any club. Moving to a club like Chelsea will be seen as a natural step in his career as he looks to cement a place in the Portugal squad and receive regular European football.

“However, the winger’s injury record is obviously cause for concern. If Neto can finally overcome his injuries, the Portuguese international will become one of the best players at the club, it is just a matter of how often the Blues fans see it.”
