'We don’t need to talk too much': Chelsea star shares just how good his on-field relationship with teammate is

Some really effective partnerships are starting to form at Chelsea this season, both in attack and defence.

Cole Palmer and Noni Madueke combined to devastating effect in Chelsea‘s 6-2 win against Wolverhampton Wanderers last month, with the former setting up all three of the latter’s goals.

At the back, Levi Colwill and Wesley Fofana have also started to develop a relationship.

Colwill recently praised Fofana, and now the French defender has been speaking about his teammate and their partnership on the pitch.

Wesley Fofana and Levi Colwill’s relationship

Fofana and Colwill have started alongside each other at the heart of Chelsea’s defence in all four of the team’s Premier League fixtures so far.

They are a new partnership, with Colwill often playing at left-back last season and Fofana not playing at all because of injury.

However, the two have already developed a good understanding it seems. Speaking to Chelsea’s official website, Fofana said: “On the pitch it’s simple — I know him, he knows me and every game is a little bit better.

“We don’t need to talk too much. I feel good with him, he feels good with me. Away from the pitch we have a very good relationship. We are not just teammates, he’s a friend, my guy.”

Fofana recently gave an interview where the 23-year-old revealed that he spoke to Marseille over the summer, but Chelsea never considered selling Fofana.

Wesley Fofana and Levi Colwill partnership set to continue against West Ham United

Chelsea face West Ham United later, and Enzo Maresca may be tempted to throw Tosin Adarabioyo into the side.

The Hammers have a big team, with Tomas Soucek and Michail Antonio being constant threats in the air.

Standing at 6’5″, Adarabioyo may be able to deal with that. Adarabioyo has warned West Ham that Chelsea are ready for the London derby.

The Blues’ clean sheet against Bournemouth last weekend was their first in the Premier League this season, but there has been much to like about the central defensive pairing of Fofana and Colwill so far.

It has pace and technical skill, with Colwill being really good on the ball, for example. Chelsea fans recently praised Colwill for his passing following England’s 2-0 win against Finland.

All in all, then, you would expect Maresca to go with Fofana and Colwill once again when Chelsea travel to the London Stadium this afternoon.
