'I would not be surprised': Graeme Souness makes prediction about Chelsea star Cole Palmer
Graeme Souness has just delivered a glowing verdict on Chelsea’s Cole Palmer.
Cole Palmer, 22, is the talk of the Premier League right now after a blistering start to his second season as a Chelsea player.
There’s a lot of talented youngsters in the current Blues squad, but Palmer is head and shoulders above the rest right now.
So far, the attacking playmaker has scored six goals and made four assists in the opening six gameweeks of the Premier League. This included a breathtaking four-goal performance in the win over Brighton last weekend.
Speaking via Match of the Day recently, Micah Richards hailed Chelsea star Palmer as “unbelievable”. The England international is receiving widespread praise from all areas of the media, rightly so.

Graeme Souness blown away by Cole Palmer
Graeme Souness has now predicted that Palmer could be subject to £150m bids next summer if he continues performing at this rate. On top of that, he’s in awe of the way Chelsea’s goal machine reacts so calmly on the football pitch whenever he scores.
“Chelsea paid £40million for Palmer but if Real Madrid come knocking next summer and he is still at the level he is showing, I would not be surprised if they got an offer of £150m for him,” Souness told The Daily Mail.
“He’s a young man, so we’re going early on this call, but if this is Palmer’s level and he can be consistently this good, he’s going to be a top man. He has got silky skills, athleticism and a fabulous football brain. There’s simply nothing to dislike about him. He’s 22. At that age, no one ought to be that good.
“I like his temperament, too. You can read a lot into a player from their reaction when they score, and Palmer doesn’t go mad when he finds the net. He seems to have a really sensible head and he looks to have had a really good football education — which you would expect at the modern Manchester City.”
Cole Palmer must start for England
Bias aside, Palmer should be starting games for England’s national team moving forward.
There’s not an English player performing as well as Chelsea’s maverick in the No.10 position right now, so it’s time to give him the reigns on the international stage.
We’re covering old ground by mentioning that the left-footed magician didn’t start a single game at Euro 2024 in the summer. Even so, he still made several impacts off the bench, including scoring a stunning goal in the final during the 2-1 defeat to Spain.
We’d love to see England experiment during this October international break with a midfield trio of Declan Rice, Jude Bellingham and Palmer.
