'He ticks a lot of boxes': Stuart Pearce is so confident former Chelsea player can fix major England issue

Thomas Tuchel will have a lot of Chelsea players that he can select when it is time to announce his first England squad.

Thomas Tuchel will begin his job as England manager in the new year and already knows some of the roster after working at Chelsea.

During his time at Stamford Bridge, the German managed the likes of Reece James and Ben Chilwell.

There are also former Chelsea players that Tuchel could turn to, such as Newcastle United’s Lewis Hall and Manchester United’s Mason Mount. Hall recently put in a solid performance against Manchester City.

Stuart Pearce wants to see Lewis Hall in England squad

Left-back has been an issue for England for a while now, with Chilwell and Luke Shaw not able to stay fit.

For Stuart Pearce, then, the answer to the Three Lions’ left-back issue is Hall now that the 20-year-old is a Newcastle starter.

Speaking about Hall on talkSPORT, he said: “He’s playing regularly for Newcastle, and it would be more of a surprise if he wasn’t in the team, than if he was. He gives natural balance. Some of the players who’ve played left-back have either not offered us enough going forward or defensively, being frail.

“He ticks a lot of boxes. He’s playing regularly for one of the top sides in the Premier League, and I would fully expect him to be in the squad.”

While Shaw remains out injured, Chilwell is fit, though he is not playing under Enzo Maresca right now. It has been claimed that Chilwell could actually link-up with Shaw at Manchester United.

What Lewis Hall said about his move from Chelsea to Newcastle United

Hall may be thriving at Newcastle now, but it has not always been easy for him at St James’ Park.

The England U21 international joined the Magpies in an initial loan deal last year and admitted his first season under Eddie Howe did not come without its difficulties.

“There are always some nerves and it’s difficult moving to a new club no matter what age you are, but especially moving so far from home, it’s not easy,” Hall said when talking about his move to Newcastle.

All in all, Hall could be a good option for Tuchel and England, especially with Chilwell not being a viable option right now.

The former Leicester City man could come back into the equation, especially with Tuchel now at the helm. But that is not going to happen if he remains on Chelsea’s bench. So like Hall, Chilwell needs to join another Premier League club.
