Borussia Dortmund are keen on signing ‘disappointed’ Chelsea player in January transfer window - journalist

Chelsea will likely be hoping to sell a number of players during this January transfer window in order to allow them to make new signings.

It has been claimed the Blues are keen on bringing in a new centre-back this month off the back of injuries to both Benoit Badiashile and Wesley Fofana.

The likes of Marc Guehi have been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge, with them even considering recalling Trevoh Chalobah from his loan spell at Crystal Palace.

Borussia Dortmund keen on signing Carney Chukwuemeka

A big signing such as the former though is going to need to see players head out the door too, and there are a number of individuals who are on the list of players to be sold.

One of those near the top of that rather long list is Carney Chukwuemeka, who has started just one game under current manager Enzo Maresca.

A number of clubs have been reported as potential suitors for the midfielder this month, including West Ham who could be about to make former Chelsea boss Graham Potter their new manager.

Another club reportedly interested in a deal for him is Borussia Dortmund, although journalist Patrick Berger has stated that they would need the Blues to drop their valuation based on his release clause.

He said: “Chelsea’s Carney Chukwuemeka is on the shortlist of Borussia Dortmund. BVB is looking for a no 8, as revealed on Monday in our show.

“The 21yo former Villa starlet is struggling under Enzo Maresca. The Blues are open to loan Chukwuemeka in winter. Release clause around €40-45m and way too high for Dortmund.”

Chukwuemeka himself is reportedly ‘disappointed’ with the fee Chelsea have placed on him, with him now keen on a move away.

Enzo Maresca concerned about Carney Chukwuemeka

Perhaps the reason that the current manager has not been keen to give the 21-year-old minutes this season is because he has not seen enough from him in their time together.

It has been claimed Maresca has been concerned at Chukwuemeka’s development in training this season.

Academy stars such as Kiano Dyer and Samuel Rak-Sakyi seem to have moved ahead of him in the race for minutes in the Conference League, making a January move away very likely for Chukwuemeka.
