Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang explains what he 'never had' at Chelsea that meant he was unable to replicate Arsenal form

Perhaps the best indicator of how far Chelsea have come under the current ownership is Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Signed as an opportunity to get the best out of an ageing striker who Barcelona needed the money for, the striker scored just once in the Premier League before he was firmly out of favour.

The basket case that was Chelsea in the 2022/23 season was something Todd Boehly and co have looked to move away from recently, and that has certainly been achieved with some of their recent signings.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang never felt connection with Chelsea

Aubameyang had shown in the past he had the ability to be one of the best strikers in the Premier League during his time at Arsenal.

However, Chelsea fans saw nothing of the like during his time at Stamford Bridge. It got so bad that he was removed from the squad eligible for the knockout stages of the Champions League.

Aubameyang has now spoken about why he was unable to recreate the form he showed at the Emirates, saying that he never felt the connection with the club like he had in the past.

He told The Athletic: “I never had that connection. No connections at all. The fans wanted the Auba they saw with Arsenal. At the time, I was not ready for that and didn’t get the opportunity. I was not ready, as well, because of what happened in Barcelona.

“It was a chaotic year but it was good for me because I needed a break and, at the same time, they didn’t want to play me.”

Aubameyang gives Chelsea transfer advice

After failing to fill the void of the striker role at Chelsea, Aubameyang has called for the Blues to sign a new striker to take the burden of goals.

Chelsea have currently been starting most of their games with Nicolas Jackson up front, and he has no doubt impressed in his second season at the club.

However, there are moments where the Blues have missed a goalscoring edge up front, and are no doubt still going to be keeping an eye on those around Europe as a potential new signing.
