Chelsea fans are all in agreement about loanee Lesley Ugochukwu after his performance vs Manchester United
Lesley Ugochukwu is one of the Chelsea loanees trying to impress and develop away from Stamford Bridge this season.
Unlike many of the Blues loan army, Lesley Ugochukwu is currently playing for a Southampton side going through a torrid campaign. The latest example is they suffered a late 3-1 away defeat at Manchester United last night, which leaves them rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table with only six points from 21 games.
It was claimed last month that Chelsea would recall Ugochukwu from Southampton in January to boost their squad. However, we’re now halfway through the mid-season transfer window, and the 20-year-old midfielder is still at St Mary’s after forcing his way back into the Saints team in recent games.

Chelsea fans react to Lesley Ugochukwu’s Southampton performance vs Manchester United
Ugochukwu started and impressed in Southampton’s midfield during Thursday night’s match at Old Trafford. He was taken off in the 83rd minute when the score was 1-1, but Man United attacker Amad Diallo completed his hat-trick by scoring two more goals late on.
Chelsea supporters on social media were all saying that they’d like to see Ugochukwu recalled from his Saints loan to help them for the second half of the season.
Here are many Blues fans on X that believe the defensive midfielder could do a job in Enzo Maresca’s team.
One fan said: “Just recall Ugochukwu; no use him playing there; we need him.”
“Recall Ugochukwu tomorrow. He deserves way better than this,” another shared.
One supporter commented: “Time for Chelsea to recall Ugochukwu. No need to run Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo into the ground every game when we have someone who can ease the burden on them and also offer something different.”
“Ugochukwu monster performance against Man United so far. We have to recall him as midfield depth,” another posted.
Speaking earlier in the season, Maresca said he had no clue if Ugochukwu would return to Chelsea in January. Unless something changes in the next couple of weeks, the French youngster will be finishing the campaign with a Southampton side destined for relegation.
Even though the Saints slipped to a 17th league defeat of the season, they actually outplayed Man United for large parts of the game before a late collapse.

Lesley Ugochukwu was outstanding vs Manchester United
It was one of Ugochukwu’s best individual performances in Southampton colours last night.
The all-action defensive midfielder really stamped his authority in the centre of the park at Old Trafford, which is a sign that there’s a real player in there.
| Minutes played | Touches | Accurate passes | Blocks | Clearances | Duels won | Duels lost | Match rating |
| 83 | 61 | 37/41 (90%) | 3 | 3 | 11 | 2 | 7.2 |
In terms of recalling him in January, we can see why Chelsea fans are keen on the idea. He would provide decent cover for the likes of Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez and Romeo Lavia. However, the club needs to weigh up whether it’s better for him to stay at Southampton now that he’s back in their starting line-up.
