Enzo Maresca says when Romeo Lavia could be back for Chelsea after missing Crystal Palace draw

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has given an injury update on Romeo Lavia, who missed the Blues’ 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace on Saturday.

It has been another season where Romeo Lavia has struggled to stay fit, with the midfielder only managing to make nine appearances in the Premier League so far.

Last term, he only played one game for Chelsea, showing the extent of his injury problems. However, Enzo Maresca has given a positive update on the 20-year-old.

Before the Palace match, Maresca had claimed that Lavia was “very close” to returning.

Romeo Lavia could be available for Morecambe tie

In a boost to Chelsea, it looks like Lavia could be back in time for the club’s third round FA Cup fixture against Morecambe.

Following the Blues’ 1-1 draw with Palace, Maresca told reporters when asked about Lavia: “Hopefully Romeo will be involved in the next game.”

With Chelsea playing Bournemouth in the Premier League a couple of days later, though, the 44-year-old could choose to rest the Belgian.

While Lavia is not playing regularly right now, he is still rated very highly in the game. At present, Lavia is one of the most valuable U21 players in the Premier League.

How many games has Romeo Lavia missed because of injury?

There was a lot of excitement when Chelsea signed Lavia from Southampton during the summer of 2023.

They beat rivals Liverpool to his signature, while the Belgium international arrived at Stamford Bridge as a very young and exciting midfielder.

However, because of all of the injuries that he has picked up, Chelsea supporters have not got to see too much of Lavia.

Since moving to west London, Lavia has missed more than 50 games because of injury and fitness issues.

It is a shame, as the former Southampton man has proven to be a great asset to Chelsea when he has played. He is a really press-resistant midfielder, able to collect the ball on the edge of his box while under pressure before swivelling out of trouble.
