‘For sure’: Fabrizio Romano hints at ‘busy week’ for Chelsea as they remain big fans of £40m forward

Chelsea have not been as active in the winter transfer window as many supporters would like when taking into account their current run of form in the Premier League.

The Blues are on a run of just one win in seven games, and have now fallen outside of the top four just weeks after many were putting them in a title race with Liverpool and Arsenal.

With just a week of the window to go, they have so far only brought Trevoh Chalobah into their side after bringing him back from his loan at Crystal Palace.

Chelsea set for busy final week of January transfer window

Defeat against Manchester City exposed a lot of weaknesses in the current Blues side, with the most obvious being how toothless they look in attack when Cole Palmer is not at his brilliant best.

Chelsea have been linked with a plethora of attackers for either this month or the end of the season, and one of the names mentioned in January is Mathys Tel.

The Blues are reportedly long-time admirers of Tel, and discussions have involved a potential swap deal involving wantaway star Christopher Nkunku.

Fabrizio Romano has mentioned Tel as a player Chelsea could look to make a deal for in the coming days, with them set for a busy final week in the transfer window.

He said: “Chelsea keep working for present and future on the market. It’s going to be a busy week for Chelsea for sure. The final one of January, but then it’s also important to remind what they are waiting for.

“For example, a player they like is Mathys Tel at Bayern, a player they wanted at the beginning of the window, when they discussed a potential swap deal in two separate negotiations, but still the same clubs talking. Bayern and Chelsea, about Christopher Nkunku and Mathys Tel.

“At the beginning of the window Mathys Tel had no intention to leave Bayern, he wanted to continue, and this remains the idea of the player but in the last three games he played zero minutes, and this could mean the situation could change in the final days of the window.”

Chelsea have not been afraid to invest big money into signings that they believe can help their project, although it will certainly not need to be an excessive fee to sign Tel.

According to The Daily Mail, it will require in excess of £40m to sign the young Frenchman, who has impressed greatly whenever given the chance to prove his worth.

Nkunku really feels surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge right now, with Enzo Maresca clearly not having the belief that he can feature regularly in the Premier League as a striker.

Chelsea fans will no doubt be more intrigued by a genuine goalscorer to come in and compete with Nicolas Jackson, who is having a rough time of things in front of goal right now.
