'Maresca is worried': The concern Chelsea manager now has about Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez - journalist

Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez are two of Chelsea’s most important players.

In fact, after Cole Palmer, Moises Caicedo is definitely Chelsea‘s most influential figure. Some would perhaps argue that he has actually been even more influential than his teammate.

Last month, Jason Cundy claimed that Caicedo has been Chelsea’s most important player this season and not Palmer.

However, with Caicedo and Fernandez being so crucial for the Blues at the moment, that looks to have brought a problem with it.

Enzo Maresca fears Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez burnout

It looks like Enzo Maresca is worried about having to play Caicedo and Fernandez too frequently, with the former yet to miss a Premier League game this season.

On his Substack Si Phillips Talks Chelsea, journalist Simon Phillips posted: “Maresca is worried about Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo having to play so much, and Romeo Lavia has not yet been reliable enough and suffers with constant injuries.”

Lavia has shown that he has enough quality to ease the load on Caicedo and Fernandez. The only problem is that the 21-year-old cannot stay fit.

Maresca is expecting to have Lavia available this Saturday, but he is missing too many games because of injuries.

Andrey Santos can lighten load on Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez

Andrey Santos is another midfielder who probably has enough quality to rotate with Caicedo or Fernandez.

The Brazilian is currently on loan at Chelsea’s sister club Strasbourg, where he is thriving.

In 16 appearances, Santos has scored seven goals, which is a very good return for a midfielder. According to WhoScored, the 20-year-old is also making an impressive 3.9 tackles per game in Ligue 1, which is the highest average in his squad.

He could, then, bring both the defensive nous and attacking threat that Caicedo and Fernandez possess to the table.

All in all, Caicedo and Fernandez are having to play a lot of games, especially the former. Chelsea did sign Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall last summer, but Maresca has constantly overlooked him this season.

Enzo Fernandez 19 15 1421

It means that the club may very well have to recall Santos or potentially sign another midfielder during the January transfer window.
