What Coventry City fans are now saying about Frank Lampard as Chelsea legend approaches two months in charge of Championship club
Many Chelsea supporters are likely to be keeping a close eye on how Frank Lampard fares at Coventry City.
In terms of Chelsea legends, there don’t come many bigger than Frank Lampard. The retired midfielder enjoyed a glittering 13-year career as a Blues player, making 648 appearances and winning 11 trophies for them.
The England great moved into football management back in 2018 with Derby County. It led to a spell as the Chelsea manager between 2019-2021, plus he returned to Stamford Bridge for a very brief stint as caretaker boss in 2023.
Harry Redknapp wanted his nephew Lampard considered for the England job, which eventually went to German coach Thomas Tuchel.
Lampard did return to the manager’s dugout just under two months ago when Championship outfit Coventry appointed him as the successor to Mark Robins on 28 November. It’s certainly big shoes for him to fill in the East Midlands.

What Coventry fans think about Frank Lampard
Lampard is now 12 games into his reign as the Coventry boss, which has included 11 matches in the English Championship. His side’s latest result was last night’s impressive 2-0 league win away at Blackburn Rovers to move up to 13th in the division table.
Here are some Coventry fans hailing Lampard’s influence following the midweek victory over Blackburn:
One fan wrote: “First away mid-week league win since February 2022. Back to back wins and clean sheets. One defeat in our last seven matches in all competitions. And all this without Haji Wright, Ben Sheaf and Ephron Mason-Clark. Tactically spot on tonight.”
“Say it quietly… So far Frank Lampard is doing a solid job,” another posted.
One supporter claimed: “What a difference half time can make, and a couple of subs. I’ve come to the conclusion that Frank Lampard is a genius.”
“Anyone who says now that the football hasn’t changed under Frank Lampard is clearly talking nonsense… The difference between now and November is night and day,” another said.
Lampard is slowly but surely beginning to make improvements on the Coventry side. He’s doing so without any new transfers yet to mould the squad how he wants, too.

Will Coventry sign any Chelsea players?
We’ve seen in the past Lampard borrow players on loan from Chelsea, so will we see any Blues prospects move to Coventry in 2025?
Lampard has asked about Chelsea duo Marc Guiu and Tyrique George in January, but he’s been told that both are out of reach.
Alternatively, Coventry are interested in Chelsea prospect Samuel Rak-Sakyi on loan. We think this is a no-brainer for the 19-year-old midfielder to go out on his first ever loan, but time is running out in the January window for something to happen.
It feels like Coventry may need to wait until next season to launch a promotion bid because of a slow start, but Lampard is beginning to win over the Sky Blue Army.
