What Frank Lampard loves about Kobbie Mainoo as Manchester United midfielder is linked to Chelsea
If Chelsea do manage to sign Kobbie Mainoo from Manchester United, then you can assume that Frank Lampard will be extremely happy.
Kobbie Mainoo is currently being linked with a move to Chelsea, with the midfielder having just two years left on his contract.
He is someone whom Manchester United are going to want to keep, but it has been claimed that Chelsea are ready to make a move for Mainoo.
Enzo Maresca already has great midfield options in Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez and Romeo Lavia, but the latter is struggling to stay fit.

Frank Lampard a fan of Kobbie Mainoo’s passing
During Euro 2024, Lampard was eager to see Mainoo play, feeling that he can pick out the right pass while having doubts about Trent Alexander-Arnold’s ability to start in midfield at the highest level.
Speaking about Alexander-Arnold and Mainoo, the Chelsea legend told BBC Sport: “I am a massive fan, but to come in at this level and play there when there are so many different elements of the game to understand is difficult.
“I would look at Kobbie Mainoo and getting him in. Some kids come along that just settle into the team. You need to be able to find the pass at the right time. He sees it and nothing fazes him.”
Lampard should not get too excited about the Chelsea links just yet, though. It has been reported that Mainoo wants to stay at United, rather than join their Premier League rivals.

What Cesc Fabregas has said about Kobbie Mainoo
Lampard is not the only ex-Chelsea player who rates Mainoo. Cesc Fabregas, who knows a thing or two about playing in midfield just like Lampard, is also a fan of Mainoo.
When the Spain legend spoke to BBC Sport, he said: “Mainoo is so young and so unpredictable but he has this potential to play in-between the line. He’s a special player.”
If Chelsea cannot lure Mainoo to Stamford Bridge, they do have midfielders out on loan whom they can bring back to the club.
The above includes Andrey Santos, who is currently on loan at Strasbourg. Reports suggest that Chelsea already plan to integrate Santos into their first-team squad for the 2025/26 season, which makes their interest in Mainoo intriguing.
There is no way that Maresca is going to be able to keep Santos, Mainoo, Caicedo, Fernandez and Lavia all satisfied. Lavia’s injury problems, though, show that at least one midfielder will probably have to be added to the team’s ranks in the summer.
