Despite mostly playing for the academy, Washington was seen in first team training plenty of times, and would frequently make the bench during Mauricio Pochettino’s time in charge.
The striker recently spoke about his tenure at Chelsea, saying he had no regrets despite getting very few opportunities for first team minutes.
He said to Gazeta Esportiva that during his time in West London, he felt very lucky to feature alongside countryman Thiago Silva.
He said: “It was a huge experience. God knows all things. Leaving that year was God’s plan. I wanted to stay at Santos, but I spoke to my parents and had the chance to go to Chelsea. We chose together. God spoke to me and we went to Chelsea.
“It was a huge experience, I had great players, like Thiago Silva. I was very lucky to work with them and have this huge experience. It was not a mistake. I left when I had to leave and came back when I had to come back.
“I learned a lot. A lot of experience with incredible players. Even in 2023, when I moved up to Santos, from Chelsea, now. I won’t stop improving my skills, knowledge. Every day I learn something new. It was incredible. I learned about tactics, positioning, how to deal with the field. Thiago Silva taught me a lot. I’m coming back at a much higher level than in 2023. I hope to help Santos a lot.”

Thiago Silva still loves Chelsea since leaving
Silva enjoyed a very successful and positive four-year tenure at Stamford Bridge, despite joining in the twilight of his career. He finally got his hands on the Champions League trophy.
Despite playing back in Brazil, the defender has kept tabs on what is going on with Chelsea and their current squad.
Silva was confused at Carney Chukwuemeka’s loan away from the club, leaving a confused response to seeing him line up in a Borussia Dortmund shirt for the first time.
Being in Brazil has seen the veteran come across future Chelsea star Estevao Willian already, with him already having conversations with the youngster over what the future has in store for him in West London.
