'Without a shadow of a doubt': John Obi Mikel claims Chelsea legend is the best trainer he's ever seen

John Obi Mikel has just named a Chelsea great as the best trainer he ever witnessed from his playing career.

John Obi Mikel, who was on the books at Stamford Bridge from 2006-2017, played alongside so many Chelsea legends during a golden era at the club.

If you fast forward to the present day, the Blues squad is miles younger and less experienced. It could desperately do with a few more senior pros setting the standards on a day-to-day basis.

Chelsea’s training levels are high under Enzo Maresca as the head coach makes a positive impact during his debut season in the dugout, but hopefully more experienced heads join the group in the summer.

John Obi Mikel claims Chelsea legend Frank Lampard is easily the best trainer he’s seen

It might not surprise Chelsea fans to hear Obi Mikel name former Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard as the best trainer he’s ever seen.

When discussing Chelsea icon Lampard, Mikel said on his YouTube channel: “The best trainer, without a shadow of a doubt. The best trainer I’ve ever played with.

“After training he’s there shooting, shooting, shooting. He takes about 20 to 30 balls and gets one of the assistant coaches to help him keep shooting. Keep practicing the same thing. He did his shuttle runs as well. He was always out there…

“We are looking at him thinking, ‘what is he doing?’ We’ve just finished the game, but he’s doing it. He comes the next day and he’s doing the same thing. It’s crazy.”

When you look back at Lampard’s remarkable career in West London, it’s no surprise to hear the central midfielder worked tirelessly on the training pitch at Cobham.

Phil Jagielka recalled one Lampard memory by saying that the midfield star didn’t miss during a shooting drill with the England national team. He’s certainly a player who squeezed everything out of his ability with a phenomenal work rate throughout his playing career.

Cole Palmer can be anything he wants to be with Frank Lampard’s attitude

If there’s one player from the current Chelsea ranks who wouldn’t look out of place with the club’s legendary sides from the past, it’s definitely Cole Palmer. The 22-year-old attacker has displayed all the individual talent in the world since he joined from Manchester City just over 18 months ago.

The encouraging news is that Palmer is always the first in training with a football because he simply loves to play.

Even though Palmer’s still at the very infancy of his career, we’re very excited about what he can become in the years to come. If he wants the perfect role model for worth ethic and attitude, he should look no further than Lampard.
